Atheist in America

I recently came across the website atheistinamerica.com. It is a website based on the fact that God and the bible are nothing more than a myth. I joined the site and I've posted a few things in hope that the man behind the website might see things from a different light. I'm going to try and see if he is willing to open a dialog so that we can discuss what we both believe and why.

The rise of atheism is a very dangerous thing for the church. We all need to be knowledgeable and know why we believe in God and his word. The Here is a artilce I found on Apologetics Press that I really liked, I hope you enjoy it.

Jefferson’s secret Bible

It’s so important that we elect leaders that are Christians. Not just in our government, but in every aspect of our lives. Many of the founders of America were associated with various Bible societies.

(Revolutionary War soldier and Governor of New Jersey, Joseph Bloomfield, was a member of the New Jersey Bible Society. Revolutionary War officer and Governor of Massachusetts, John Brooks, served as president of the Middlesex County Bible Society. Chief Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court and U.S. Senator, James Burrell, Jr., served as president of the Providence Auxiliary Bible Society. James McHenry, Secretary of War and signer of the federal Constitution, was a founder and president of the Baltimore Bible Society. Rufus Putnam, Revolutionary War Brigadier-General as well as Surveyor-General under Presidents Washington, Adams, and Jefferson, served as president of the Ohio Bible Society. Declaration signer and Surgeon-General of the Continental Army, Benjamin Rush, served as founder and vice-president of the Philadelphia Bible Society. These lists could be greatly expanded. [NOTE: see American Bible Society, 1816 and Barton, 2000, pp. 139-143, for lengthy listings.]

“The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of John Shelby Spong.”

This was the disclosure stated at the beginning and end of a recent news article. The article was Johns opinions about the 3 biggest biblical misconceptions he believe the bible to have. He talked a lot about the history and when he believes things were actually written.

Child-trafficking ring bust

As Reported on CNN.com (Chinese police have busted two child-trafficking rings after a six-month nationwide investigation, rescuing 178 children and arresting 608 suspects, the country's Ministry of Public Security announced this week.)

It’s great that the child-trafficking crimes have taken a hit in china recently. However we know there are many places in the world where child-trafficking is very strong. Could this be something that could grow America?

Christians Killed in Nigeria

Around 20 people were killed recently in Nigeria during a meeting after the deaths of 4 others earlier last week. We can remember all the dangers that the apostles faced and how they stayed strong to the faith even to the point of death, this is the case here.

We as Christians living in America don’t face as many dangers as those in other place of the world. But could that change? And if so, how soon?

Taxpayer-Funded Slang Sex Ed Videos

Recently released, a series of videos that use current language and slang to teach teens about safe sex. The article I read was about how people were upset about the inappropriateness of the videos and not the fact that they were teaching safe sex to teens.

First we all need to take a step back and realize that videos that teach safe sex are inappropriate no matter how their written or filmed. Also that we should not be teaching our teens about safe sex period. We should be teaching them that sex is not allowed and is not acceptable until marriage. And even more importantly, this should be taught by the parents, not the school system.

The Gorwing "Do what feels good" philosophy"

"Why young Christians aren't waiting anymore" was the title of an article written last September. It talked about how young unmarried Christians are having premarital sex almost as much as their non-Christian peers. A recent study showed that 80 percent of unmarried Christian 18 to 29 said that they have had sex, which was slightly less than 88 percent of unmarried adults.

One Christian girl spoke out saying said she wanted to wait until marriage to have sex. But that she started having sex with her college boyfriend when she turned 20 because nearly everyone, even most of her Christian friends, were having sex. "It seemed everyone in my life, older and younger, had “done it.” In fact, I waited longer than most people I knew and longer than both of my sisters, even though we were all Christians and came from a good home."

New Laws Cover Up Sin

With each passing year more and more laws are enacted that aid in overlooking sin and making things that were once unacceptable now standard practice.

We are going to look at some of the laws that went into effect this year.

As Reported on CNN.com (California now has a provision requiring that schools add "lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans" to the list of those whose contributions "to the development of California and the United States" must be taught in schools. Another California law adds "gender identity and gender expression" to the list of characteristics that require equal rights.

States in Support of Same-Sex Unions

Five states now allow same-sex civil unions. Hawaii and Delaware joined Illinois, New Jersey, and Rhode Island this week of states that support and recognize same-sex civil unions.

As Reported on CNN.com (Delaware said its new law became effective at 10 a.m. Sunday. In Hawaii, online application for civil union licenses was made available beginning at midnight, despite the fact that government offices are closed until Tuesday, the state government said.)

As Reported on CNN.com (In both Hawaii and Delaware, the language of the law emphasizes that "it is not the legislature's intent to revise the definition or eligibility requirements of marriage.")
It may not be their intent but that is exactlly what they are doing.

Sunday: First Day of the Week and the Year

The start of this year is beginning on Sunday. Which is the Lords Day, the first day of the week. How did you start this year? I hope that you started it worshipping with other Christians and reflecting on the sacrifice of Jesus.

Many people and even some that would call themselves Christians no longer support or give any attention to Sunday as a day of worship. Let's look at the examples we have that show Sunday as being a special day for worship. Here are some important things to consider:
