The Top 100 Magic the Gathering Cards of All Time

I want to try and build a list of the top 100 cards of the entire game. What are the most game-breaking, versatile, consistent and most powerfull magic cards of all?

Each suggestion period will last for 2 weeks. At the end of each period I will rate all the the cards that were suggested and add the top 10 of those to the list. So please check back and see if yours made it.
Please send me an email suggesting your top 10 cards for the period. Also please check the current list posted here before you summit any cards. As some of them may already be added.
The first suggestion period will start on June 6 until the 17th, for positions 1 - 10. I will send you a confirmation when I recieve your email.

The Rules:

  1. This is a best of list, not a favorite card poll. Do not suggest cards because you like them more than others, or because you think they’re cooler. If that was the case I'd mark Basking Rootwalla as #1.
  2. Please try to explain your choices and give examples of game play if at all possible.
  3. Try and ask yourself questions about the card before you summit:
-When it was legal, did this card see massive play in each of its formats?
-Did it inspire an "instant include" tag to it, regardless of the deck it's going into?
-Is the card still highly regarded and revered as a threat?
-Would this card warrant an instant restriction because of a quick-kill tendency?
-Has this card spurred its own archetypes thanks to the synergy it has with other cards that are best in combination with it?
-Can it sustain itself on its own without the need for another card or combo?
-Is the ability unique in itself where there have been many attempts at "dumbing it down" or "weakening" the same effect?
  4. While Vintage and Legacy are the best formats, try to move out of that realm. Some cards that are played in other formats can also be defining.
  5. Also, try not to just look on the banned or restricted cards to often. While, most of the best cards are on there, it is just a list made by people’s opinions on the game, plus some of the best cards are not even on there. Take Force of Will and Swords to Plowshares for example. So no “this card is better because it is on the restriction-list” arguments please!
  6. Yes, this is the Top 100 EVER. Ever means that you may suggest Juzam Djinn, the power house in its day but not played often anymore. This is just a rough example, but it means that this top 100-list not neccesarely has to become the Top 100 best Magic cards. Expect critique though if you suggest out of flavor cards.

The Way it Goes:

Suggest a group of 10 cards you think are the best.
Put the cards in order for 1 to 10. With the best card at 1 and the least best card at 10.
I will rate the cards and after that the 10 cards with the best results will be added every two weeks until the Top 100 list is complete, we will continue like this in groups of 10 cards at the time until we hit 100.
After that there will be a 1 month re-order period were everyone may reorder the top 100 and email me there suggested changes.
I will email eveyone sent suggestions or changes once the final list is composed.

Exceptions on suggestions:

  1. If you suggest for 1 Mox, you suggest for them all. Having 3 or 4 different Mox-cards in the Greatest-Top 100 Ever is a waste of space. Moxen are going to take place at one position in the list, period. Same for Dual Lands, Fetch-lands, etc.
  2. Only suggest tournament-legal cards: no ante-cards and no Unglued and other Un-sets are allowed. Everyone knows by now Portal/Starter-sets are legal.
  3. Suggesting is your choice, but let’s make this a good and representative list for beginners as well. So no “Sol Ring is better then Black Lotus” or “Spiritmonger is the best creature in the game”. State the facts most of the time and explain your choice.
  4. No suggestions for basic lands.

Best of luck to all!!!
